FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS

What conditions does the program treat?

GOM specializes in treating obesity, which is a complex chronic disease. Obesity is both progressive and relapsing, and requires medical care to be managed effectively. GOM’s founders are leaders in obesity medicine.

Is this a weight loss program or a broader metabolic health program?

GOM primarily treats obesity. Because obesity is a metabolic disease, treating obesity first can improve overall metabolic health. For example, people who have type 2 diabetes may experience partial remission. Treating obesity can also improve cardiovascular health and other conditions such as chronic kidney disease, liver disease, high blood pressure, and others.

Do I have to have a certain BMI or weight to qualify?

You do not have to meet a certain weight or BMI to have a consultation with physicians at GOM Health. Depending on your needs and medical eligibility, our physicians can tailor a care plan for you. Your insurance company or employee benefits may have their own guidelines for covering your care. Check with your health insurance provider or your employer’s human resources team. You may also choose to pay for your care out of pocket.

How much does the program cost?

Cost depends upon your health insurance and your employee benefits package. Ask your health insurance provider if they will cover the treatment cost. Care with GOM Health is also FSA- and HSA-eligible. If a physician prescribes medicine, it is a separate cost and is not included in the cost of the program. Prescriptions are filled through a pharmacy of your choice.

What if my insurance won’t cover the cost of the program or medication?

You can choose to pay out of pocket if your insurance won’t cover the cost of the program. Care with GOM Health is a qualified medical expense that is FSA- and HSA-eligible, so you may be able to use your FSA or HSA account. If a physician prescribes medicine, it is a separate cost and is not included in the cost of the program. Let your GOM Health physician know you’re paying out of pocket and they can consider your financial needs when tailoring your program. Many pharmaceutical manufacturers have coupons and programs for people who need to pay out of pocket.

What if I’m not medically able to take medicine for weight loss? Can I still work with GOM Health?

Yes. GOM offers a coaching program for people who aren’t able to take medicine for weight loss. The program include doctor supervision, lifestyle coaching, access to our AI-powered app for daily monitoring, and text support.

Do employees need a referral from their primary care physician to participate?

GOM doesn’t require a referral from a primary care physician to participate in the program. We’ll assess medical eligibility through our intake questionnaire. Employees may need prior authorization from their health insurance plans to get coverage for any prescribed medications.

Is GOM a telehealth program, an in-person program, or both?

GOM can provide care in person or virtually. We comply with state board of pharmacy regulations about establishing relationships for care between patients and providers.
